LeatherFestXI Volunteer Job Descriptions

 

DUNGEON SET-UP & BREAKDOWN CREWS:
We need two teams. These teams will follow the direction of the Assistant Coordinator's in charge, ultimately answering to the Dungeon Co-Coordinators. Set-up crew must have strong backs and be available on August 29, 2001 and or August 30, 2001 through September 2, 2001. Break down crew must have strong backs and be available on August 31, 2001 through September 4, 2001. Members on both teams will sign up to help during the transition from Workshop space to Male Dungeon space after workshops close at 5:30 on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (Working any of these set-up and/or breakdowns constitutes the minimum requirement.). You may volunteer to work on all of the crews throughout the event.

This person must have a strong back and will assist Co-coordinators in all phases of setting up the dungeon and maintaining the equipment during the event. A Semi Alpha personality type preferred; able to follow direction as well as give direction. Some familiarity with dungeon set up and equipment, with ability to track inventory. Experience in set up or breakdown preferred, though not necessary. Must be available Wednesday, August 29, 2001 through September 2, 2001 (September 3,2001 if possible).

 

BREAKDOWN ASSISTANT COORDINATOR:
This person must have a strong back and will assist Coordinators in all phases of tearing down the dungeon and maintain equipment during the run. A Semi Alpha personality type preferred; able to follow direction as well as give direction. Some familiarity with dungeon and equipment, with ability to track inventory. Experience in set up or breakdown preferred, though not necessary, must be available September 2, 2001 through September 5, 2001.

 

TRANSPORTATION CREW:
Transportation crew individuals will be responsible for Driving. To be assigned to this crew, you MUST have a valid CA driver's license with proof of insurance and have a fairly good driving record. Transportation individuals will be required to load and unload equipment into trucks at both ends. This means you must have a strong back and be willing to help with set-up and/or breakdown. We prefer these individuals have a pleasant personality, as they will be dealing with people and equipment being on loan for LeatherFest XI. They must be available during set up to drive trucks from August 29th to the 31st., and/or available for breakdown to drive moving trucks from September 3rd to the 5th. They may also need to do some pick up and distribution before or after these dates.

DUNGEON MONITORS:
We are looking for friendly, patient and courteous people familiar with
general SM etiquette and safety issues who are willing to enforce these
rules in a polite, respectful manner. A Dungeon Monitor's main duty is tokeep our play spaces SAFE! The Dungeon Monitor is the person who watches a play space with an eye toward assistance, instruction and in the unlikely event you need to step in and interrupt a scene, intervention. They may also function as ambassadors to LeatherFest and the leather scene - orienting participants about the dungeon, explaining what equipment is available, and answering attendee's many questions (including where to find the bathroom, first aid, and cleaning supplies!)
All Dungeon Monitors are required to attend a 2-hour training session to learn our specific Dungeon Play Rules, and LeatherFest policies. You must also be willing to follow the direction of the Dungeon Monitor Coordinator in all aspects of dungeon safety and maintain a clean, orderly, and fun play environment. CPR and First Aid Certification a plus!

ENTERTAINMENT VOLUNTEERS:
We need volunteers familiar with the production/technical aspects of stage, theater, music, or entertainment variety type of shows. Entertainment volunteers must be able to think and act quickly on your feet. Work with and follow direction of the Entertainment Coordinators in all aspects of the entertainment portion of LeatherFest XI. This includes, although is not limited to: 2 dinner shows, a dog training/show, pool games, fashion show and pony races.

GENERAL VOLUNTEERS:
We need general volunteers to be ready at a moments notice. They will follow the direction of the volunteer CO-Coordinator's. We prefer these volunteers be familiar with the Palm Springs area. These individuals will be runners, able to take on any task needed, be multitask oriented and willing to jump into any situation at any given moment. The tasks assigned to a general volunteer may range from but not limited to; Dungeon set-up/Breakdown, answer the phones in the volunteer office, working at the registration table, assisting entertainment, and running errands.

INFORMATION VOLUNTEERS:
This position will be a LeatherFest concierge consisting of friendly, outgoing, sociable type volunteers and will be trained by our Site Coordinator Miss Terry Bishop. These individuals are needed to share information about LeatherFest XI, Palm Springs and the leather scene. Knowledge of Palm Springs, restaurants, miscellaneous sites, and leather events a plus but not necessarily required. The LeatherFest concierge will be used primarily during the registration process, maintain the information table, and utilized throughout the event to answer questions.

MASSAGE/ACUPUNCTURE VOLUNTEERS:
2 - 3 licensed Massage and/or Acupuncture Therapists will be working with the Volunteer Coordinators to give massage/acupuncture/TLC to the hard working staff and volunteers of LeatherFest XI. Especially those staff members and volunteers doing hard physical labor.

REGISTRATION VOLUNTEERS:
We want volunteers who will serve and process registrants of LeatherFest XI, volunteers full of enthusiasm who are willing to go above and beyond. Computer experience is appreciated, though not necessary in filling the variety of registration positions available. If you have helpful abilities, customer service experience, good with finances, attention to detail, and a pleasant personality, please consider the opportunity to meet everybody checking in before the festivities begin!

SECURITY VOLUNTEERS:
The main duty of Security is to assure the "security" of event participants, including, but not limited to: controlling and assisting in the smooth flow of traffic in the parking lot; monitoring the registration and vendor areas; assisting people with directions to various areas of the event; and "patrolling" the event grounds to assure everyone is wearing their registration "tag".

Security volunteers may be called upon to assist in a variety of ways, they should be outgoing and work well with people of all backgrounds, pay attention to detail, and stay focused on their assignment. You must be able to interact well with all staff, other departments, volunteers and hotel staff. Previous security background is a plus although not required.

Security "shifts" may require long periods of sitting, standing, or walking. People with physical challenges will not be discouraged from volunteering (keeping the above in mind) as the volunteer work requires more of a good heart than a strong arm. We are looking for people who are available to work three to four shifts so as to have a solid core group of volunteers, however, any amount of time offered will be considered.

SM UNIVERSITY:
Two volunteers are needed to help Myss Crickett pass out papers, etc. These volunteers may be needed as demo bottoms for simple bondage and/or flogging activity. You will also be working as a workshop volunteer when not assisting with SMU. (See description for Workshop Volunteers.)

SPECIAL SERVICES CREW:
Special services volunteers need to be fully committed to making this event pleasurable for all attendees. We require that you be flexible, flow smoothly with last minute changes, and insure the event is accessible to all through a variety of methods. Some responsibilities include posting signs, preparing handouts in large print format, monitoring rest areas, answering general questions as they relate to persons with special needs, pushing wheelchairs and assisting the hotel with identifying/correcting trip hazards and accessibility barriers. If you communicate in American Sign Language or work with the differently-abled, we are particularly interested in your working with our team.

VENDOR CREW:
Vendor assistants are needed to help set up, check in vendors, oversee vendor area during LeatherFest XI and help break down after the event. There will be some light lifting and carrying involved with this job. These volunteers need to be friendly people, good with money, have clerical skills, trust-worthy, and reliable to work in the Club X/LeatherFest store.

WORKSHOP VOLUNTEERS:
Receives orders well, carries them out with a "Yes, Sir", "Yes Ma'am" attitude and does so in a quick and efficient manner while smiling at ALL times. These people are more than willing to please and pay attention to detail, wanting to serve at peak performance and then some. Works well under pressure and fast paced situations. You must be willing to work hard, be extremely helpful and ever thankful for the job you're doing, and have fun.

Duties will include assisting and taking orders from the Workshop Coordinator's and directly assisting facilitators and/or presenters in any way possible as far as set-up and breakdown of several workshops over the weekend. You may be running, lifting, carrying or searching for needed items at a moments notice, again while smiling at all times. This includes moving equipment, chairs, suitcases, props; any combination thereof as well as serving water and helping presenters feel comfortable. You must also become familiar with the LeatherFest layout and schedule of events.
